Abstract
- ECMO is commonly used as a bridge to heart transplantation in critically ill patients.
- Additional MCS devices (e.g., Impella, IABP) may be used alongside ECMO to enhance cardiac output.
- The effect of dual circulatory support vs. ECMO alone on post-transplant survival is unclear especially after 2018, when the heart allocation system was revised to reduce waitlist times for MCS patients.
